Sick Day Guidelines:

Making the Right Call

When Your Child is Sick

Should I keep my child home or send him or her to school?  Generally the recommendations are a child should stay home if (s)he:

  • Has fever (this is a temperature of 100 degrees or higher)

  • Has been vomiting or has diarrhea

  • Cough that (s)he cannot control

  • Unknown rash

  • COVID like symptoms

  • Any doctor exclusion from school.

Keep your child home until his or her fever has been gone for 24 hours WITHOUT medication.  Also keep your child home until 24 hours after the last vomiting or diarrhea episode and the student has been able to eat a normal meal without trouble.  Please be considerate and notify the school when your child will not be in attendance as well as the reason for the absence.

Children generally get sick quicker and recover quicker than adults.  We understand that mornings can be rushed and it’s sometimes difficult to judge how your child’s day will go.  That’s why it’s so important to keep your current phone number updated at the school so if your child becomes ill (or injured at school, we are able to contact you.  Any questions, please contact Ms. Clapp, the school nurse.

Important upcoming dates to remember:

  • Oct 15, 2023 Current physicals/immunizations must be on file with your child’s school nurse.  Students without current physical/immunizations on file will not be allowed to return to school on Monday Oct 17th.
