Sixth graders have been learning about lines of latitude and longitude. They have also been finding absolute location on maps using the latitude and longitude coordinates. Their first activity was to make their own dot to dot. Students made a lightning bolt, a maple leaf, and a picture from the following options: tulip, star, 8-pointed star, bat, sunburst, palm tree. To wrap up the activity, students played Battleship. Some students were quite tricky by placing all of their ships in one hemisphere rather than spreading them out. Hopefully the students learned a little and had a little fun with this activity!
