Students put themselves in the shoes of archaeologists. One day they had to excavate chocolate chips from a cookie. The chocolate chips represented the artifacts and the cookie represented the ground. Students enjoyed this task, especially when they were able to eat the evidence at the end of the activity.
Another archaeology activity involved analyzing artifacts as a team. The students were given a claim and then had to determine if the evidence provided supported the claim or refuted the claim. Students did a great job working together and discussing possible scenarios.
