Here we go!!! The Pontiac Junior High Softball team has its season well underway.
Herscher Limestone defeated Pontiac 17-3. Sophia Forbes and Laykin Newbury were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run. Forbes, L. Newbury, and Ryder Lee each collected one hit for Pontiac. The Warriors turned one double play in the game.
Next up was Parkside as the team from Normal defeated the Warriors 16-1. Sophia Forbes, Nora Huncovsky, Leah Mackinson, and Harper Davis each collected a hit for Pontiac. Avery Haan added a walk.
Pontiac notched their first win against the Redbirds of Dwight. Nora Huncovsky and Laykin Newbury had early RBI’s putting the Warriors up 4-0. Then in the 4th inning, Pontiac scored 9 runs. Sophia Forbes and Harper Davis each collected a hit to bring in runs, and Leah Mackinson and Leah Crawford each drew a bases loaded walk also scoring runs, And L. Newbury brought in a run on a fielder’s choice sacrifice. Kylie Newbury earned the victory from the mound. All in total, L. Newbury had two RBI’s, Davis had two hits, Forbes, Mackinson, L. Newbury, and K. Newbury each had a hit, and Avery Haan had three walks. Forbes and L. Newbury also stole multiple bases.
After a couple of rainouts, including the Livingston County Tournament, the Warriors were back at it against Prairie Central as they lost 10-4. Sophia Forbes led Pontiac with one hit and an RBI in three at bats. Pontiac had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Leah Crawford and Dallas Ahlers led the team with two walks each and Forbes added two stolen bases.
Pontiac got back in the win column against Fieldcrest with a 9-6 win. Kylie Newbury earned the win and Sophia Forbes went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Forbes, Nora Huncovsky, and Laykin Newbury each collected two hits for the Warriors and Harper Davis added a hit. Laykin Newbury stole two bases. Pontiac also turned two double plays in the game.
In a double-header against Bloomington Junior High, the Warriors dropped a close first game 12-9. Kylie Newbury had a hit and two RBI and Laykin Newbury had two hits. Nora Huncovsky added a hit. In the second game, the Warriors won 10-4. Claire Ahern earned the victory for Pontiac and led the team with 2 hits. Hattie Thompson, Lily Melvin, Hinleigh Gentry and Avery Haan each added a hit. Haan also stole four bases.
The Warriors then lost a close game against St. Mary’s 7-4. Harper Davis and Kylie Newbury were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Pontiac. Kylie led Pontiac with two hits and Dallas Ahlers added a hit.
And last night at El Paso, the Warriors came back after being down 6-0 with a strong 3rd inning to take an 8-7 lead. But the Titans scored 11 unanswered runs to win 18-8. Laykin Newbury and Harper Davis each had 2 hits, Kylie Newbury and Dallas Ahlers each added a hit, and Nora Huncovsky, Leah Mackinson, and Emerson Fenton each added a walk.
