In 7th‑grade Language Arts, students are preparing to conduct independent research and compile their findings into a written essay. To launch the unit, we previewed articles, photographs, artwork, and other artifacts related to Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two prominent 20th‑century Mexican artists. The twenty pieces in the collection helped tell Frida’s and Diego’s stories, highlighting their relationship and careers as professional artists.
We wrapped up the unit by creating a museum‑like experience. The collection was displayed around the room, and students previewed the images, took notes, and read selected texts. Their task was to identify similarities and differences between an image (or images) and a chosen text, and to support their observations with text evidence through a written response.
