Pontiac Dist 429 PTO Meeting
January 19, 2010
Tina Weber opened the meeting. The minutes from January’s meeting were reviewed and approved. The agenda was also approved.
Rachel Blakeman presented a request for a ball inflator for Central School at a cost of approximately $160 and a Chatter Box Voice Activator at a cost of approximately $200. The voice activator could be used for more than just PE. Ruth Schlosser motion to approve the request, Maggie Janssen seconded the motion. The request was approved.
Judy Donze requested $300 from the PTO to help pay for ISAT snacks for the Jr. High. Mike requested $200 for Washington and Maggie requested $125 for Lincoln. This is a total of $625 for all three schools. Tina made a motion to approve the requests. Kristi Baier seconded the motion.
Kim Verdun gave a brief treasurer’s report. Our current balance is $18,286.83. The AR bill still needs to be paid at an estimated cost of $4,000.
Spring Fundraiser
Beth Edinger gave an update. She passed around a letter that will go home with students explaining the fundraiser. Beth was asked to change the kick off date to 3/30/10 and the end date to 4/8/10. Delivery date and contact information also needs to be added to the letter.
Book Fairs
Lisa Maybeck suggested that next year each school have their own book fair in the spring and then a large combined one in the fall off site. Currently Central is looking at scheduling one for May which would be a buy 1 get 1 fair. Washington is also considering having another book fair in the spring, but has not yet set a date. Lisa will need someone to take over at Washington next year.
Movie Night
Jackie gave the board an update on movie night. Wilkin Seeds is donating popcorn. We will make and serve lemon aid. The two movies chosen were Partly Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Night at the Museum 2. Movie night will be 2/25/10 starting at 6:30pm.
Budget
Tina Weber presented a budget that had been proposed by the administration. This budget was made based on what had been done in past years for each of the schools. In the new budget, Parent/Teacher Conference dinners had been eliminated so that money could be applied toward more urgent needs for the students and buildings. After looking over the budget it was agreed that the Teacher Appreciation line item would also be removed for the same reason. Another change was to switch the wording of the Movie Night line item to Assemblies starting next school year for the Lincoln-hosted event. It was discussed that in the future the PTO would look at increasing the amount for Activity Funds so that teacher requests could be fulfilled through the Activity Fund before they came to PTO.
Kristi Baier made a motion to approve the budget. Mary Nyi seconded.
P/T Conference Dinner
With the removal of this line item in the budget, it was agreed that the PTO would not provide a dinner for the teachers for this spring’s conferences.
Other Items
The Box Top program was discussed. Mrs. Janssen has offered to help with this program next year, but the PTO will still be looking for other members to work with her so that we can bring back the contests in the classroom to boost participation.
The next PTO meeting was scheduled for March 9th at 6pm.
A motion was made by Jackie Rustman to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Kristi Baier.
Respectfully submitted by,
Shelly Bohm, Secretary
