Pontiac Dist 429 PTO Meeting

January 19, 2010

Tina Weber opened the meeting.  The minutes from December’s meeting were reviewed and approved.  The agenda was also approved.

Jackie Rustman reported on Family Movie Night to be held 2/25/10 at Lincoln School.  Maggie agreed we should have two movies due to the age range.  The letter sent home with the students should mention that kids should be accompanied by an adult.  It was decided popcorn and drinks will be served at no charge.  It was suggested that we contact Brian Swartz at Wilken Seeds.  He has always been very generous donating pop corn.  We may need more bags and will need to purchase more oil.  Jackie will decide how many volunteers are needed and let the Board know.

Kim Verdun gave the Treasurer’s report.  We currently have a balance of $16,621.46 in our account.  Motion to approve made by Shelly.  Seconded by Karen Traylor.

Tina told the Board she had talked to Angela regarding Box Tops.  She has been working and hasn’t had the time to work with individual classrooms as in the past.  Currently she is picking box tops up from the schools once a month.  She needs someone else to take this over next year.  It was suggested we check with Lori Schrock.

Spring Fundraiser

Beth Edinger presented information on Nelson’s Catering for the idea of a dinner fundraiser. The PTO profit would be approximately $2 per ticket. Discussion included using the Jr. High as a location for this type of fundraiser to accommodate both dine-in and drive-thru orders. Further discussion on this type of fundraiser was tabled until a future meeting.

Mike Ruff came to speak to the PTO as a representative of the Fannie May fundraiser. PTO profit on this fundraiser would be $4.50 per box. Boxes of candy would be priced at $11. Mike will take care of the prize program, which would not come out of our $4.50/box profit. He would come to each P429 school for a 15-minute presentation as a kick-off. His turn around could be as quick as one week, with orders being packaged per student and then delivered to each student’s respective school. We would be able to do a pre-pay sale.

He also presented a flower seed catalog fundraiser. PTO profit is 50% of sales. This company does not provide incentives. They will ship orders directly to customer, but every customer order includes $5 shipping price.

If our PTO went with Fannie May, P429 would need to set a date after St. Mary’s spring fundraiser, which kicks off Feb. 10th.

Motion to approve Fannie May fundraiser for our spring fundraiser was made by Kim Verdun, seconded by Mary Nyi.

P429 fundraiser dates were set as follows: Kick-off on April 7th, order deadline on April 21st, and delivery on May 6th.

PTO Budget

Budget discussions will be tabled until next meeting, when administrators can present the PTO with specific needs for each school.

Accelerated Reader

Mr. Krenz explained that the cost for the Accelerated Reader subscription for Lincoln and Washington schools would total $3,763.84. This subscription would be good from Feb. 2010 through Feb. 2011. A motion to approve was made by Jackie Rustman, seconded by Mary Nyi.

Tax Referendum

The PTO was presented with the idea of a brochure, containing information on the upcoming tax referendum to be passed out to the community. The PTO decided it would not sponsor this type of brochure at this time.

The next PTO meeting is scheduled for February 16th at 6:00 p.m.

Motion to adjourn made by Jackie Rustman, seconded by Mary Nyi.

Respectfully Submitted by,

Shelly Bohm, Secretary
