The administration of Pontiac Grade School District #429 would like to reassure parents that steps are being taken to continually keep the students and staff in Pontiac #429 schools safe while school is in session.
In the fall of 2006, Pontiac District #429 installed audio/visual entry security systems at the main entrances of each of our buildings. All visitors to any of our schools are now required to ring the buzzer, identify themselves, and upon visual identification from the school office, will then be admitted to the building to report to the office. Because of this security system, all doors at all buildings are kept locked throughout the school day. No one is allowed access to any of our schools, without giving proper identification.
During the last year and a half, the administration at Pontiac Grade School District #429 has been working extremely close with the Pontiac Police Department, Pontiac Fire Department and Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and have updated an extensive Code Red Plan that outlines courses of action for different possible situations. During the last year, we exercised two plans in each building that involved going on a Code Red lockdown. The Code Red Plan details what would happen with a variety of different situations to ensure your student’s safety. Due to the length of the Code Red Plan, I cannot get into details, but please be assured that your sons and daughters will remain safe within District #429.
New for the 2007-08 school year, we are fortunate enough to have a school resource officer dedicated solely to Pontiac Grade School District #429. This officer is located at the Jr. High school but does have contact with all four of our buildings.
