Changes for Jr. High School Lunch Program

The School Food Service Rules (23 Illinois Administrative Code 305), effective as of October 17, 2006, establish food and beverage requirements for items sold to students (ala carte) in grades 8 and below before or during the school day.  The Illinois food requirements all nuts, seeds, eggs, cheese packaged for individual sale, fruits or non-fried vegetables, or low fat yogurt, or any other food items whose total calories from fat do not exceed 35%; total calories from saturated fat do not exceed 10%; total amount of sugar by weight does not exceed 35%; and calories do not exceed 200.  These changes will need to be in place no later than January 3, 2007.
